Here is an example of a 4.14 kW Grid Tied Solar Array for we are currently installing for Make It RIght.  The installation utilizes S-5 mini clamps and is installed directly to the standing seem to eliminate the need for any penetrations on the roof.  The type of installation is one of many options available to integrate to what ever type of roof you have whether it be asphalt, tile, wood or metal.
