When TAG Homes owner Tommy Gennusa wanted to build his 5,700 sq. ft. personal home he came to Comfort Engineered Systems to design his insulation and HVAC package.

TAG Homes relied on our construction assistance to point out and solve issues that would affect the Building Performance. Because Tommy is energy conscience we were also able to help him with his pool equipment selection. Pools can be a big energy drain and we assisted in making sure this was not the case. When we started to work on our HVAC design for this 60,000 cubic foot home one of Tommy’s concerns was indoor air quality. For this we include a central filtration package that filters the outside air we bring in as well as the outside air brought in for good air quality. In addition we used a Sanuvox UV air purifier to assure that the micro organisms were totally wiped out.

We were able to complete the HVAC package using a single 5 ton two stage Carrier Infinity zoning package. The home is broken up into 6 zones. When of the benefits of zoning is we are able to design the living room zone to handle social events by diverting more air when needed to this area. It is a unique design that we can provide. This Carrier Infinity package has over 84 points of on board diagnostics that is totally reviewable by
the owner. This is the only system that actually reads the filter and will let you know when it is the exact time to change.

After one year of living in the home Tommy’s highest kW consumption is less than 4,100 kW a month. In addition we are able to maintain a consistent 52% Rh level in the home. So once again we are able to provide a HVAC design that is energy efficient, comfort and provides a healthy safe environment.

                                                            New Orleans, HVAC

Com4t Engineered system was put in this house
Task: To determine the best approach to air condition an 800 sq. ft. home addition

                                                            Result:
Our custom design paid for itself by keeping the electric bill the same, making the homeowner a very satisfied customer

Description & EquipmentThis lovely Old Metairie residence had an initial 1300 square feet of living area. The homeowner added an 800 square foot addition. The house was equipped with a 3-ton heat pump with back up gas heat. Other contractors wanted to add an additional system. Comfort Engineered Systems feared adding a second air conditioning system would drastically increase the homeowner’s utility bill. Comfort Engineered Systems left all of this equipment in place, and did a complete, detailed analysis of the space to be added.

                                                            Analysis

Our analysis took into consideration specific modifications to be made to the house, such as insulation and new windows, enabling us to come up with a plan to redesign the ductwork. We removed the original ductwork and installed an engineered trunk system. The photos below detail the differences between the original flex duct layout and the new Com4t Engineered designed duct system.

The new system design has benefited the homeowner AND improved the old system’s efficiency in more ways than one – the system dehumidifies the house more efficiently now than before; the homeowner’s utility bills have not increased, even in the winter months, and they say the sound level is noticeably lower. All of these factors add up to increased comfort for the homeowner.

Task: To convert two older R-22 model condensing units to one of our new PURON models

                                                            Result:
The customer can now enjoy their back yard due to the installation of a quiet, patented PURON condensing unit

                                                            Description & Equipment
This homeowner realized that investing in his home would be a better investment than the stock market. He replaced both his upstairs and downstairs systems with Carrier's PURON 38TXA-036 condensing unit (which has a 13-14 SEER rating), with Carrier’s matching evaporator coil. The savings, added to the homeowner’s peace of mind, made this a great home improvement investment. There is no quieter equipment made – the homeowner can now relax in his backyard in peace and quiet.

                                                            Com4t Engineered duel fuel system
Task: To design a system that was both energy and cost efficient, while taking advantage of new technology that can reduce high natural gas costs.

Result: We converted an old gas furnace system to a new variable speed dual fuel system that uses natural gas heat only when it is extremely cold or in emergencies.

Description & EquipmentThis homeowner upgraded her Mid-City beauty to a state of the art Carrier 48JZ series heat pump duel fuel package unit. This baby uses the heat pump for heating during most of the New Orleans area’s mild climate, but, for those occasions when more heat is needed, a gas furnace kicks in to provide that extra heat. Heat pumps are three times more efficient than gas heaters. This system is further tied together with Carrier's matching thermostat. No other manufacturer combines the two. Notice how the size of this unit does not take away from the home’s curbside appeal. It fits in and looks perfect to match the ageless beauty of this home. This homeowner made a smart decision, and the timeliness of it allowed the upfront difference in cost to pay for itself, as well as gain many years of low cost heating. In addition, this smart homeowner purchased our Carrier fully transferable 10-year parts and labor extended warranty.

Com4t Engineered filtration system Installed in this house
Task: To install a system that would improve the comfort level of the living space while reducing the high natural gas heating expense.

Result: Our custom design created a healthier environment with a vastly improved filtration system and outstanding humidity control, with a reduction in the homeowner’s utility expenses.

Description & EquipmentThe homeowner of this 100-year old uptown house installed two Carrier 38TDB 048 Model 4-ton PURON 2-speed Condensing Units. Downstairs, the homeowner chose a coordinating Carrier 58UXV100 variable speed furnace and a Carrier CK5BXA048 box coil that fits perfectly on top of the furnace.

Upstairs he installed a Carrier FV005 variable speed fan coil with 12KW electric heat.
A Carrier Thermidistat controls the environments upstairs and downstairs. This combination thermostat and humidity control provides maximum comfort while saving the homeowner money on their utility bills - A nice combination.
For maximum filtration and air quality, we installed two Carrier MECH2000 4" mechanical filter packages, with filters designed to last over a year.
To further enhance the use of the filters, we installed two Sanuvox R1500X UV Air Purifiers. These air purifiers kill bacteria, mold, fungus, dust mites, and other airborne viruses. This gives the homeowner added peace of mind knowing the quality of his indoor air is greatly improved.
Another benefit to the homeowner is that these systems are so quiet, the homeowner doesn’t even know if the equipment is running or not - another quality feature of the Carrier equipment!

Com4t Engineered systems Installed a insulation package

This gorgeous 4,500 sq Ft Southwest style home has the perfect view right on Cotton
Creek Golf Course in Gulf Shores, AL. The owner who resides in Dallas, TX built this
home as a get away from the daily hustle and bustle of the working world and wanted a
place that was peaceful and soothing.

They used a lot of stone with exposed wood beams in the home to create the openness’.  The pool and outdoor kitchen are tied into the living and dining room using over 30 feet of hurricane rate sliding glass door package. One of the unique aspects of this home is an attic shooting range.

The owner wanted to know that this home would be energy efficient and comfortable especially with the high ceilings and open spaces. They hired Comfort Engineered Systems, Inc. They liked our broad range of input we impart in the construction phase. Unlike other HVAC contractors we know the construction piece impacts the air conditioning package and therefore needs oversight help in synergy with the General Contractor.

The first piece of business was to make sure the exterior stone work and EFIS were designed to eliminate water issues. Because of our attention to detail we found a wall plate problem and we assisted in sealing the wall plates so that we would mitigate future water issues.

The insulation package was designed using BIBS in the walls and foaming under the roof deck. We completed our HVAC design for this 50,000 cubic foot home and decided to use a 2 ton two stage Carrier Infinity system for the Master Bedroom zone and a 3 ton two stage Carrier zoning package to control the Living room zone, Man cave zone and the Guest room zone.

In addition we included Carrier’s new WIFI system to communicate with the internet.  Both systems are accessible from Dallas or anywhere else in the world. Enjoy these pictures as this is a one of a kind home comfortable and efficient.
